While browsing through the archives, we came across an old notebook with some memories: Details of a convention of "Gvulot" group that was held in December, 1949, half a year before going to Beit Alpha, it was agreed then to go to a settlement.

The locality was discussed, as well the possibility of joining forces with another group etc.etc. Some details herewith:

 

 

Yossi Ali:

We need to realize that time is short and that the group should agree that we need to connect to a certain place and that the establishments will assist us with this decision. We need to decide in principle that we are objective. In case we go to a settlement the initial number of the group will be 60 for the first year. After year we need to enlarge this number to at least 80. This group of people to be made up from our people who work in the movement.

Amos:

Two of the problems mentioned here by Yossi need not be considered since we are not the ones who will decide when we will go to a settlement - this will be decided by the establishment - they won't ask us.

Nissan:

The problem is not if they will ask us yes or no. We need to have a goal - we therefore need to be active.

Yehuda:

If it will be clear to us which settlement we will go or will they send us to any settlement?

Yossi:

There is a plan to settle us in the Jerusalem Corridor, at Al Ku Bab - this plan is not yet clear - this is a possibility since this is what is needed, it's possible that in a week there will be something else depending on the political situation. The thing is if we should wait until the higher powers will decide where to settle us or if we need to be active here.

Zeevik:

The problem is not such a serious one. We are a little young to go onto a settlement - it's too soon. We need to spend another year in training.

Avrameleh:

We need to avoid going to Nahal since there is a danger of becoming career orientated. Also they are very military inclined

ברצוני לגעת בנקודת מקום ההתיישבות. סמריה היא מקום שבו גרו הערבים קודם לכן, וסלוקו בתוקף המלחמה. איך אפשר לדבר על עלייה לנקודה כגון זו, בשעה שאנחנו מדברים על הכנסת ערבים למפ"ם וכו'. מציע שנחליט שלא נתישב במקומות בהם חיו ערבים קודם לכן וגורשו או נרצחו.

באשמתינו או שלא באשמתינו אנו נמצאים באותם מקומות שאם הערבים יחזרו אליהם - הם יחזרו על טנקים.

יוסי.

קוסם לי סמריה. שטח אדמה, מים. ואם יש מי שאומר שבגלל שפע המים נשאיר את המקום לעולים חדשים - אינני מקבל זאת.

אברמלה.

הרמיזה שרמזו על אל- קובב הרבה יותר שקולה. אינני מקבל את החיפזון להחליט על סמריה.

גבריאל.

מביא לתשומת לב שהחברות אינם מביעות דעה. מציע שהוועדה שתלך למרחביה - תלך עם אוריינטציה לנגב. ירכיבו ועדה שתתענין במצב בנגב ויקימו נקודה. הנמוקים הם: שהנגב הוא שטח המחיה הרציני ביותר שיש לישב עתה בארץ, מתוך נמוקים פוליטים וצבאיים.

אבנר.
