Kibbutz
Nachshon is situated in the historic Ayalon Valley in the center
of Israel. This region, dotted with ancient wine presses, was
in biblical times a center of wine production. Today our area
is experiencing an unprecedented rebirth of grape growing and
wine making. Old, over producing vineyards are being replaced
with high quality Merlot and Cabarnet Sauvingon plantings. Small,
high quality, independent wineries are leading the way to new
levels of Israeli wines. The Nachshon Winery will be moving
next year to its new building and will double its production
capacity for the 2000 picking season. By the year 2004 we plan
to be at the 50,000 - 70,000 bottle level. Our wines will utilize
100% stainless steel tanks and the most modern crushing and
pressing equipment. 80-90% of the wines will be barreled, aged
for 9-24 months. Ariel Padawer, a member of Kibbutz Nachshon,
founded the winery in 1996. He is an experienced farmer being
responsible for 700 dunam (70 Hectare) of fruit trees including
almond, avocado, persimmons, olive and wine grapes. Ariel also
took upon himself to organize meetings of small winery owners
from all over Israel, the objective of the meetings was twofold,
primarily to raise the level of competence by tastings and lectures
on wine technique and secondly to facilitate a free flow of
information concerning mutual equipment, purchasing and exchange.
Nachshon, along with many Israeli wine producers, also places
great importance on the tourist potential of a wine route.
